Space Finalists’ Exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London

The winner of Prix Pictet Space was announced at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London on May 4 2017 by Kofi Annan. Irish photographer Richard Mosse was awarded the overall prize for his series ‘Heat Maps’, which documentsĀ refugee camps and staging sites using an extreme telephoto military grade thermal camera that can detect body heat from a distance of 30.3 km. The camera is used against its intended purpose of battlefield awareness and border enforcement to map landscapes of human displacement.

The 12 shortlisted artists are Sergey Ponomarev, Sohei Nishino, Rinko Kawauchi, Thomas Ruff, Munem Wasif, Richard Mosse, Michael Wolf, Pavel Wolberg. Beate Guetschow, Saskia Groneberg, Mandy Barker and Benny Lam.
