The global award in photography and sustainability

Dirk Claus

Principal Digital Communication Expert, European Central Bank, Visual Storyteller

I am a senior photo editor with over fifteen years experience of producing, commissioning and directing photo-assignments in Germany and Asia, for print and online publications. I directed the Asia photo coverage for the German Stern magazine across all formats and editorial departments in Hong Kong and Bangkok between 2008 and 2013. Prior to this, I set up the photo department of the online site of Stern magazine between 2001 and 2008. As a regular visitor at international photo-festivals such as Visa pour l’Image, World Press Photo, Angkor Wat Festival, Singapore Photo Festival, Pingyao, Yangon Photo, Chobi Mela and many more I reviewed photo and video portfolios and acted as a juror. For the last six years, I have lectured on photojournalism to undergraduates in China and most recently in Berlin and curated several photo exhibitions in Asia. I have a major in “International Multimedia Journalism” from Bolton University and I am passionate about photojournalism and the new possibilities the internet and digitization offers in terms of digital storytelling and multimedia communication.
