Phillip Prodger

Senior Research Scholar, Yale Center for British Art

Prior to his role at the National Portrait Gallery in London, Prodger was the founding Curator of Photography at the Peadbody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts, following several other arts teaching positions in Hong Kong and curatorial posts including the Saint Louis Art Museum and the National Gallery of Canada.

He originally read Political Economy and Asian Studies at Williams College in Massachusetts, before obtaining a Master’s degree at Stanford and a Ph.D. from Cambridge University, writing on artists in the circle of Charles Darwin. In 2013 he received a Focus award for contributions to the appreciation and enjoyment of photography.
