Laura Serani

Laura Serani is an Independent curator of exhibitions, festivals, editorial and audio-visual projects.

Laura Serani studied modern Literature, History and Philosophy in Rome and in Paris, where she is based.

She has been the Artistic Director of the Rencontres de Bamako, the African Photography Biennial, in Mali. She was Déléguée Artistique for Le Mois de la Photo à Paris 2008, and in 2007 and 2008, Director of the SiFest in Italy.

Director of the FNAC Collection and of the FNAC Photo Galleries worldwide, from 1985 to 2006, she curated a multitude of exhibitions such as those of Berenice Abbott, Brassaï, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Raymond Depardon, William Klein, Inge Morath, Miguel Rio Branco, Gabriele Basilico, Mimmo Jodice, Max Pam, Paulo Nozolino, Paolo Woods, Francesco Jodice, Jonas Mekas, Stanley Kubrick , Wim Wenders, Willy Ronis and many others.

Among the exhibitions that Laura Serani has curated: African emerging photography, Les Rencontres de Bamako à Paris Photo 2011, Grand Palais; Pierre et Alexandra Boulat 100 Photos pour la liberté de la Presse, avec RSF, Petit Palais, Paris; Ara Guler, Lost Istanbul, MEP, Paris and CCB, Lisbonne; Malick Sidibé, La vie en rose, Maramotti Foundation, Italy; Notre Histoire, National Gallery of Bosnia – Herzegovina, Sarajevo, Agnès b, Paris and Centre de la Mémoire d’Oradour; several audio-visual productions and installation for Fotografia Europea – Reggio Emilia and for the IIC (Institut italien de Culture) in Paris.

She collaborates with many cultural institutions and festivals worldwide and has been involved in several juries including World Press Photo, New York Photo Awards and Prix Niépce.
