Dr Jean Wainwright is an art historian, critic and curator living in London. She a Professor of Contemporary Art and Photography and is Director of the Fine Art and Photography Research Centre at UCA (University for the Creative Arts). As a writer and academic she has published extensively in the contemporary arts field, contributing to numerous catalogues and books. She also regularly appears on television and radio, most notably on Channel 4 and the BBC including Woman’s Hour. She is on the steering committee of Fast Forward: Women in Photography and to date has curated a number of important international exhibitions including Ship to Shore: Art and the Lure of the Sea and Powerful Tides: 400 Years of Chatham and the Sea which was part of Chatham Historic Dockyards 400 year celebrations. To date, she has interviewed over 1,800 artists and 177 of her interviews are on the Tate website.
