The theme of the fourth cycle of the Prix Pictet was Power. As a theme Power is vast and paradoxical; it embraces hope and despair in equal measure. Over 650 photographers from 76 countries were nominated for the award by over 200 experts from five continents. They presented images that are both awe-inspiring and disturbing.
From these submissions the independent jury, chaired by Professor Sir David King, shortlisted 12 artists from ten different countries. The Shortlist was announced at Les Rencontres d’Arles on 4 July 2012, and worldwide in the Financial Times on 7 July 2012. The shortlisted artists’ work was brought together for the Finalists’ Exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery, London. Luc Delahaye was announced as the winner of the fourth Prix Pictet by Lord Norman Foster at the Saatchi Gallery on 9 October 2012. At the same time Simon Norfolk was chosen by the Partners of the Pictet Group to undertake the fourth Commission. Following the London exhibition, Prix Pictet Power embarked on a worldwide tour.

Jury
The jury for the Prix Pictet are a group of leading experts in the visual arts from around the world including directors of major museums and galleries as well as journalists and critics. They lead the global search for images of high artistic qcuality and narrative power and fit the theme of a particular cycle.

With each Prix Pictet award, Pictet supports a charity whose work reflects the theme of the prize. Simon Norfolk will visit Afghanistan with the support of Medair’s Afghan and international staff working on the ground.
