The Prix Pictet was founded by the Pictet Group in 2008 to harness the power of photography to draw global attention to critical issues that threaten humanity and the natural world.

For each cycle, a cash prize of 100,000 Swiss francs is presented to the photographer who, in the opinion of the independent jury, has produced a series of work that is both artistically outstanding and presents a compelling narrative related to the theme of the award.

The eighth cycle of the award takes the theme of Hope. Twelve shortlisted photographers present series that highlight signs of progress and positive change in an ongoing battle to save the planet. Their photographs reveal moments of triumph in the face of adversity, successful attempts to repair and regenerate the natural world, and the ways in which a mood of optimism can drive us towards change. In November 2019, Ivorian photographer Joana Choumali was announced as the winner of the eighth Prix Pictet for her series Ça va aller (it will be ok).
